This course is designed for registered nurses in clinical practice and Allied Healthcare professionals who wish to acquire physical examination skills in order to enhance patient assessment.
You will need to have identified a suitably experienced mentor (either a doctor or nurse) with the necessary skills to support you in practice.
This course is available at both Level 6 and Level 7.

About this course
You should be a registered health care practitioner, for example nurse, occupational therapist or physiotherapist and be currently employed in a relevant clinical practice area.

Course programme
Throughout this module you will learn ways to develop a sound knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and the way in which deviation from the normal may occur. The course aims to enhance your ability to assess the patient holistically using a range of different assessment methods through systematic clinical examination of their health history and body systems.
Attendance and Personal StudyStudents will be required to attend for 13 study days and 2 days for examinations, spread over 15 weeks.
How will I be taught and assessed?During this module you will be taught by lecturers with experience in human biology and physical assessment skills, some of whom are advanced practitioners.
You will benefit from a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, practical sessions, and tutorials. You will also be expected to undertake self-directed study.
Assessment will be based on an exam and an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).
