Course Description:
This National Diploma in Health & Social Care has been designed to provide opportunities for entry into professional training, such as nursing, midwifery, social work, residential care management, housing and the probation service.
Course Content:
18 units, eight core units, covering:
· Equality Diversity and Rights
· Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care
· Developing Effective Communication
· Research
· Psychological Perspectives for Health and Social Care
· Sociological Perspectives for Health and Social Care
· Development through Life Stages
· Health and Safety.
Specialist units, covering:
· Values and Planning in Social Care
· Supporting and Protecting Adults
· Caring for Children and Young People
· Health Education
· Research Methodology
· Introduction to Counselling
· Caring for Individuals with Additional Needs
· Complementary Therapy
· Caring for Older People
· Technology in Health and Social Care Services
· Infection Control
· Vocational Experience for Health and Social Care.
In addition, you will undertake 300 hours of work experience.
Assessment:
All units will involve presentation of assignments and vocational practice will be assessed via observation and a portfolio of evidence. All work is also internally
and externally verified according to BTEC quality standards.

You must be aged 16 or over and have achieved four GCSEs at grade C or above. For those wishing to pursue nursing or related careers, GCSEs in English and maths or science will be required. Alternatively, applicants who hold a BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care can apply. Mature students will be considered on an individual basis. A Criminal Records Bureau check, together with a satisfactory reference is a requirement for admission onto this course. There will be a computerised assessment
of literacy and numeracy skills. Following interview attendance at a taster day is required.
