What will I study?
The subject comprises four major elements, with practical performance at its core. Theoretical aspects include Anatomy and Physiology, Skill Acquisition and Socio-cultural Studies in PE/Sport. These units are studied in year one (A/S Level). Practical performance in two activities is assessed continuously and represents 35% of the overall mark. You should also be able to analyse strengths and weaknesses in performance.

Duration:
One year for AS Level and a further year to complete A2.

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
A commitment to practical sport is essential, as is an awareness of what makes for a healthy lifestyle.

How will I be assessed?
One written examination at the end of year one, together with a further exam at the end of year two make up 65% of the overall grade. Practical performance makes up the remainder. You need to pass AS Level before progressing to A2 study.

What can I do afterwards?
PE is an excellent choice for a career in Leisure Management, Teaching, Physiotherapy and Sports Journalism. Universities regard PE as a fully acceptable A Level to count towards a degree level entry.

Are there any additional costs involved?
College sports equipment/clothing can be purchased through the PE department if your require it. One condition for acceptance on the course is that you will be expected to purchase a text book to help you with coursework, homework and assignments. This can be done through the College and details will be given to you during the first week of your course.
