Course programme

First, learners must complete training in how to prevent and defuse conflict and deal with challenging behaviour, without the need to use force, plus our Assault Avoidance and Disengagement programme

Training will then include an appropriate level of restrictive skills based upon the risks and need together with an understanding of relevant law, ethics and medical risks

Most programmes involve low level restrictive standing and seated holds

Advanced training is provided for those who may have to respond to higher levels of violence for example, in an emergency

Additional specialist skills are taught for certain roles. These can include searching, incident response, crowd scenarios and use of equipment.

Choose Dita Consulting for a safer approach to physical intervention

Dita Consulting’s primary goal is to help its clients to reduce the use of force because physical intervention carries risks for everyone involved and can results in tragedy.

Our Training focuses on how to prevent situations arising and escalating but recognises there are times in some environments when staff have to act to prevent imminent harm to themselves or others. Where such scenarios are foreseeable, Dita Consulting will give you greater peace of mind through:

  • Helping you establish the level of physical intervention training required and support with policy and guidance
  • Targeting a reduction in use of force through building confidence in alternatives to physical intervention
  • Reducing risks to service users and staff when intervention is legitimate and necessary
  • Physical responses that are non-aggressive, professional, safer and highly effective

The decision to use physical intervention skills should not be taken lightly and should always be regarded as a ‘last resort’ when other options have failed or are likely to fail and where it is not possible or appropriate to withdraw from the situation. Physical intervention training must be carefully designed and delivered around the specific risks staff face, the roles they perform, the service users they work with and the intervention in which they work.
