About this course

You need to have achieved the following. BB in double science or two separate sciences, one of which should be Physics at GCSE. Grade B in Maths is essential. This is in addition to the standard College entry requirements for the programme you have chosen. Please note this course requires a high level of competancy in mathematics. Some of the content is very mathematical.

Physics AS and A2

What will I study?
At AS Level you will study GCSE topics in greater depth and will meet many new ideas, especially in modern Physics. At A2 Level you will study higher level topics.

Duration:
One year for AS Level and a further year to complete A Level.

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
You need to be a competent mathematician at GCSE level. In addition you should be motivated, committed and well organised in order to meet the demand of the course.

How will I be assessed?
AS assessment consists of two theoretical written papers each worth 40 percent of the AS Level. The units are examined in January and June. The third unit is assessed by means of an assessed experiment based upon a physics based case study. It is assessed in June and is worth 20 percent of the AS grade. In A2 there will be similar pattern of assessment.

What can I do afterwards?
Many science-based courses at University, such as Physics, Engineering, and Materials Science require A Level Physics. For courses such as Medicine and Veterinary Science Physics A Level is a useful qualification. Alternatively, you could choose a career in Industry where knowledge of A Level Physics is regarded as very useful.
