Course programme

You develop basic mathematical and problem-solving skills and an understanding of physics. The modules are excellent preparation for studying for a physics degree. Topics covered include:

  • mathematics, mechanics and optics
  • electricity, magnetism and waves
  • modern physics and properties of matter.

Each module has a number of lectures each week, supported by regular workshops in a smaller group. One afternoon a week is spent on laboratory work. The Foundation Year is intensive and requires hard work and commitment.

These modules are running in the academic year 2018/19. We also plan to offer them in future academic years. They may become unavailable due to staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let our applicants know of such changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
