This course is run over 5 days, 4 days course 1 day exam, which are spread over 6 weeks and includes a project (Three subjects will be given and one chosen by panel on the day)
MODULE 1 - PLANT PROTECTION, AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS AND SOCIETY
Give reasoned arguments and decisions in support of the most appropriate and safe plant protection practices, including pesticide use in different agricultural and horticultural systems, and in relation to current issues and the concerns of Society.
MODULE 2 - FORMULATION
Select an appropriate formulation to suit the physical, chemical and biological properties of an active ingredient, and efficacy and safety expectations (including additives)
MODULE 3 - MODE OF ACTION
Give advice on the correct selection and use of a product in the field, so as to achieve optimum control of the "pest", minimum damage to the crop, and minimum risk to the operator and the environment.
MODULE 4 - APPLICATION
Give advice on appropriate conditions, timings, techniques and requirement for applying pesticides efficiently and safely.
MODULE 5 - HEALTH AND SAFETY
Give advice as necessary to enable the safe storage, handling, transport, use and disposal of pesticides and their containers.
Examination: 20 multi-choice questions
6 out of 10 short answer questions
Oral examinations (2 VIVA panels) -
1st panel 15-20 minutes on technical and practical matters
2nd panel 5-10 minutes on one of the subjects given to the candidate approx 4 weeks prior to exam.
