The Plumbing Intermediate Apprenticeship is an intensive and practical course designed to give you the relevant knowledge and experience to understand the installation of domestic plumbing systems. Learning at the College through practical and theory sessions is teamed with work-based experience and training to gain the City & Guilds NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heating and a Technical Certificate.

About this course
Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of plumbing. You will need to be dedicated and committed to your study and be responsible for your own learning. You will be required to attend an interview with the Work Based Learning team and be asked to complete basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy, followed by a paper based trade test. Students on this course are required to be employed in a suitable work placement with a plumbing company. Two GCSEs (grades A*-C) in maths, English or science would be also desirable, but are not essential.

Course Content
This course gives a detailed overview of system installation and testing, commissioning and de-commissioning systems. By the end of the course, you should be trained in basic plumbing skills, including:
- System Installation and Testing
- Commissioning and De-commissioning Systems
- Copper and LCS Bending
- Soldering Skills
- Hot and Cold Water Supplies
- Central Heating
- Sanitation
- Health and Safety
As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills Level 1 in ICT and Level 2 in English and maths.

What can I do next?
Following further training, career pathways may include technician, designer or estimator, possible progression to an Advanced Apprenticeship and entry into the Gas Industry. Further programmes of study include Water Regulations and Unvented Hot Water short courses.

Considering an apprenticeship?
Many young people look to an apprenticeship to gain valuable skills directly in the workplace.
You can apply for both an apprenticeship, and a full-time course as your back up,
but note that you will need to do some research to find an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice
if you do not already have one.

ready to complete your apprenticeship with.
