Portfolio sketchbook preparation course (short course)

Sketchbooks are amazing places to visually think things out, and a great way to track your development and skills you are working on. Drawing in sketchbooks on a regular basis will build confidence and a chance to exercise creativity, as well as develop and record ideas for larger drawings and paintings.

This one-week portfolio preparation course focuses on sketchbook research of a variety of sources, development of visual ideas, and eventually producing a final piece of art in the studio. Throughout the course you will get the chance to explore different media and develop a variety of ways to express your ideas and what you see.

Next to studio based activities, the course will take you on different locations across the city and give you the opportunity to explore figurative drawing, urban landscapes and sketching directly from nature at Dundee University’s Botanic Garden.

Towards the end of the week, you will learn how to develop one of your sketchbook ideas into a larger piece of art, using elements observed in your sketchbook. This course is both suitable for beginners and those with some experience who look to build a portfolio for further study in art and design.
