Attain a high level of proficiency in both French and Portuguese, even if you have no prior knowledge of studying Portuguese. The Department offers an unrivalled variety of courses on Portuguese and Brazilian studies: from the medieval to the contemporary, on literature, linguistics, art, history, popular music, film, theatre and translation, all taught from our Central London campus. This course includes a year abroad which is normally split between French and Portuguese-speaking countries (usually Portugal or Brazil).

The year abroad offers students the unique opportunity for immersion in French culture. We have exchanges with a number of partner universities in France and French speaking countries, and the opportunity to undertake an internship/work placement in a French- speaking environment (typically sourced by students themselves).
Combination of language skills, cultural literacy and critical thinking means graduates from King’s are highly employable.
All students follow core modules in French language to a high level of proficiency in written and spoken French.
Studying Portuguese and French at King’s will equip you with the language skills, cultural awareness and critical independence necessary to compete successfully in almost limitless range of careers. Recent graduates have gone on to gain employment in areas including business and commerce, finance, marketing, accountancy, law, the Civil Service, the media, charitable and non-governmental organizations, while others have remained in higher education to gain a teaching qualification or continue their studies at postgraduate level.
