Overview
Our Portuguese and Management BA will allow you to achieve a high level of fluency in Portuguese, whatever your previous understanding of the language, while acquiring knowledge and skills in the broad discipline of management that are key to so many graduate careers. With strong links to the business world surrounding our campus in the heart of London, our students have excellent networking opportunities and a wealth of entrepreneurial, business and economic societies to engage with and enhance their studies. Choose from a range of Portuguese modules on cultural topics from the Middle Ages to the present day and Management modules including economics, organisational behaviour, accounting, marketing, and business strategy. The degree includes a year in a Portuguese-speaking country.

Opportunity to study abroad for a year offers students the chance to immerse themselves in culture and society and achieve language fluency. We have exchanges with a number of partner universities currently including Lisboa, Nova de Lisboa, Coimbra, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Universidade Federal da Bahia, Universidade de São Paulo and Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. The year abroad also offers the opportunity to undertake an internship/work placement in a Portuguese-speaking environment (typically sourced by students themselves).

Year 1

Year 1 Courses are divided into modules. Each year you will normally take modules totalling 120 credits. You are required to take 6o credits in Portuguese and 60 credits in Management. Required Modules Portuguese

You are required to take:

  • Core Portuguese Language (non ab initio) or Introductory Portuguese (ab initio)
  • Global Iberias

Management

You will take:

  • Accounting & Financial Management
  • Organisational Behaviour
  • Sociology of Work
Optional Modules There are no optional modules in year one.


Year 2

Year 2 You are required to take 60 credits in Portuguese and 60 credits in Management. Required Modules

You are required to take:

  • Principles of Management (15 credits)
  • International Business (15 credits)
Optional Modules

Portuguese

You take 30 credits from a range of optional modules, which may typically include:

  • Visuality, Literature and Modern Life in Latin America
  • Fatherlands: Spain and Portugal under the Dictators
  • Power, God and Race - The Writings of Medieval Portugal
  • Nineteenth-century Fiction in Brazil and Portugual (15 credits)

Management

You take 30 credits from a range of optional modules, which may typically include:

  • Corporate Finance (15 credits)
  • Government & Business (15 credits)
  • Industrial Organisation (15 credits)
  • Microeconomics (15 credits)


Year 3

Year 3

Your third year will be spent abroad at one of our partner institutions which currently include:
