Course programme
How will I learn?
We will use a course book with accompanying CDs, but this will be supplemented by other materials, often from the internet. We will do a range of activities based on a topic, mostly involving listening to and understanding French speakers and then using the same language to speak in French ourselves. Learners will often work in pairs.
How will my progress be monitored and assessed?
The tutor will listen to your contributions in class and help you to improve your accuracy and pronunciation. You will complete a few tasks for a portfolio, showing that you are able to understand spoken French and speak in French about the topics that we have covered in class.
Progression opportunities
Learners who successfully complete the Post Beginners course usually progress on to a French Improvers course (Level 1).
What equipment or materials will I need to provide?
You will need paper and a pen. In addition, you can either borrow from Newcastle City Learning (against a small deposit) or buy your own copy of the course book, which can be bought either new or second-hand. More details once you enrol on the course.
What other support is available?
Help with numeracy or literacy is available. ICT drop-in sessions are available during term time and are open to all learners. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Learner Support Funding is available for equipment, childcare and travel to learners who qualify. For further details please ask when enrolling.
The topics covered include:
A range of everyday topics such as travel, ordering in a café or restaurant, going shopping, arranging a meeting, talking about your family.
You will learn about French culture and customs. Some topics can be negotiated with learners at the beginning of the course.
