Course programme
After a period of rapid technologic development and a significant global shift in our relationship with digital technology, what challenges does the painter face? With the painted surface as your starting point you will investigate the questions faced by artists in the ‘post-digital’ age.
Similarly with the invention of photography in the mid-nineteenth century, the development of the digital realm has bought about significant shifts. Globalisation has accelerated and the social, economic and artistic landscapes have significantly altered. 30 years on, how can you as an artist reflect upon and draw influence on these changes?
Through off-site visits, research and exploration you will learn from the work of progressive contemporary artists confronting these issues in their work. Through discussion and reflection, you will start to understand how your painting practice can take influence from digital technology and remain relevant as we approach the mid-twenty-first century.
Course Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have a better understanding of the conversations and new theories surrounding art in a post-digital age and how this can influence your painting practice moving forward.
Who Should Attend
Anyone with a current painting practice looking to contextualise their work in relation to the digital realm and partake in discussions on wide-ranging topics concerning post-digital painting.
