A freelance technical designer she has unique insight into all aspects of technical design and specialises in the plus cup size market. Laura has worked on the development of an integral support nightwear range for a specialist fit retailer, as well as developments for maternity and mastectomy lingerie brands, underwire developments with leading component suppliers, swimwear for the plus cup size and core size markets.
Course programme
More than a million women are diagnosed with breast-cancer in the UK each year, so the demand for mastectomy lingerie is greater than ever. Additionally, the highest growth in new diagnosis is in younger women, which is driving the demand for expanded and more desirable post-surgery lingerie options. DMU has partnered with post-surgery lingerie experts Di Murini, to offer a one-day course in post-surgery bra fitting for retailers. Course aims The course offers retailers the chance to not only expand into this niche area of bra fitting but attendees also have the option to obtain 5 university credits which can be put forward towards achieving a University Certificate in Professional Development (UCPD) in worked-based learning. Attendees will gain the knowledge and hands-on fitting experience relevant to women who have had mastectomies, allowing them to provide a more appropriate fitting service. Objectives During the course attendees will: Learn about the various breast cancer surgeries, treatment and side-effects Understand the emotional and physical impact of breast cancer surgery Develop suitable strategies that can be tailored for each customer Measure and fit post-surgery models. Learning outcomes Be able to confidently fit post surgery customers as part of a retail bra fitting service. Understand the theory and practical aspects of specialist fitting techniques Recognise a variety of bra styles as well as key design aspects Recognise the fit offered by the key brand of Di Murini. Aimed at The course is suitable for retailers and healthcare professionals who stock and fit specialist post surgery items. Delivery The course will be delivered at De Montfort University over one day and includes fitting theory and practical bra fitting for post surgery customers. Students will then be able to use this knowledge and apply it in working retail or healthcare environment. Course price £350 plus VAT
