Course programme

Post Graduate Diploma in Gestalt Therapy Theory Studies

This year is the second year of the MA programme. During the year students begin the development of the practice of Gestalt Therapy in both individual and group settings. Emphasis is on the development of facilitation skills, and increasing understanding of the application of theory to practice, and conversely the reflection of practice in theory. Skills development is supported by peer and tutor feedback.

There are 2 modules for this year

Module 3.1 is the theory module which centres on a critical study of Gestalt Theory, particularly exploring contemporary theoretical developments in Gestalt and considering the relationship of Gestalt Theory to other significant models of psychotherapy: the Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural and Psychoanalytic Group therapy theories are introduced and considered.

Module 3.2 is the Gestalt Therapy Practice module. Students develop practice skills both in an appropriate placement (if not already working with clients) and with their peers. Attention is given to development of self in the therapeutic role and evaluation of interventions both with individuals and in groups. The issues of difference and diversity are considered in the context of the practice of the psychotherapy.

Students learn how to write individual and group case studies.

The training group remains as a learning laboratory and as a support for personal reflection.
