PRESENTATION
The Postgraduate Diploma in Tourism Management (Association of Tourism and Hospitality Executives) is accredited by NCFE. This course aims to provide students with a specialised understanding of the operational aspects of the international tourism industry.
The Post Graduate Diploma Tourism Management is an 18 month programme with 3 months teaching followed by a 9 to 12 months work placement in a related commercial business. After completion of the placement, there is a further 3 months of teaching and submission a final assessment of 10,000 words research project.
Stage 1
-Tourism industry
The scope of the tourism industry and the factors affecting tourist's desire to travel.
-Introduction to Tourism Economics
An analysis of international tourism from an economic perspective, with an emphasis on socio-economic issues and the consequences of globalisation on tourism.<!--[endif]-->
-Introduction to Business Operations
An overview of the separate functions and activities that concern managers in the modern hospitality industry.
-Marketing
An understanding of marketing and its applications in the travel and tourism industry, and how to optimise product penetration.
-Finance for the Travel Industry
The financial principles involved and their specific applications to the travel and tourism industry.
-Human Resource Management
An analysis of the approach to the management of an organization's assets - the people working there who contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the business
Stage 2:
Work placement experience
Work Placement:
Students are allocated work placement. It is the responsibility of the awarding body (ATHE) to provide work placements which are monitored by course tutors. The placements may be situated anywhere in the UK. Students are allocated Work Placement for 9 to 12 months.
Stage 3:
-Travel Geography
World Geography with particular reference to the tourism industry.
-Travel Agency and Tour Guiding Operations
An understanding of travel agency and tour guide operations and the factors to consider to ensure a profitable business.
-Special Interest Tourism
Investigating the product range, competitive factors, the appeal and motivation of special interest tourism.
-Destination Analysis
Introduces the cultural, social and physical features of destinations and the issues and trends that affect their popularity.
-Final Assessment
Research project - 10,000 words
