Course programme

This two day course will guide delegates through a complete system testing task for realistic application, using methods and processes accepted as industry best practice. The course will cover practical learning of the full set of skills needed by today’s professional test analysts.

Key point:

Basic theory. Delegates will learn about one of the standard v-models used for software development and how verification, validation and risk are important components in creating valuable test assets.

Fundamental test process. Delegates will hear about the key aspects of a generic test process and learn how the role of test analyst fits into the various activities.

Reviews. Reviews form an essential part of the testing process. Delegates will get practical experience of performing a technical review. They will also hear about the MoSCoW prioritization method, and how to assess requirement quality from a testing perspective.

Test analysis. Delegates will get hands-on experience of recognizing and extracting functional test conditions from a test basis including a requirements specification for a sample application.

Test design and test techniques. Delegates will gain an understanding of when a where to use equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis and decision table testing techniques in the derivation of test cases from test conditions.

Non-functional testing. Delegates will learn how to recognise and extract non-functional test conditions and complete their definition through a table based method.

Test implementation. Delegates will learn how to write test procedures (scripts) and gain an understanding of the importance of using specific data, using appropriate level of detail and pre-defining expected results.

Test execution. Delegates will learn how to follow a test schedule produced by a test leader and how to document defects through and incident management process.

Progress reporting. Delegates will learn how to report progress to test leaders and the importance of providing clear and concise information to assist test leaders to make appropriate decision about the progress of testing.
