For adult students who wish to go to university to get a professional degree, (e.g. nursing, business, computing) but are not yet ready for the Access course. This may be because you have been out of education for a long time or because your recent training has been vocational rather than academic, or because you need to get your maths and English qualifications for Access.


Maths and English lessons are offered automatically when you enrol for Pre Access. These will be on a separate day.

About this course

If English is your second language you will need IELTS 5.5 before enrolling on this course. You will also need this for your Access course and IELTS 7 for university.


If you have struggled with academic courses previously, or have any disability or learning difficulty please speak to a tutor at enrolment so that we can make sure proper support is put in place for you as soon as possible.

CAVA (Cambridge Access Validating Agency)

Progression from this course is to an Access to Higher Education course, often Health Professions, Humanities or Computing. Future progression is often to university, usually a local university such as Bournemouth or Southampton.
