Course programme

UCLan Pre-sessional programmes are designed to enable students to qualify to study at UCLan if they have not met the English language requirement for an undergraduate (usually IELTS 6) or postgraduate (usually IELTS 6.5) degree programme.

You will be studying with us for a number of weeks and attending 20 - 25 hours per week of lessons as well as doing plenty of additional work. If you work hard, this should mean that your English improves to the right level. The course is designed to help you develop the academic aspects of reading, writing, speaking and listening. You will also develop academic skills you will need for studying on an undergraduate or postgraduate programme.
In addition to attending classes and doing the work your teacher sets, UCLan offers a range of opportunities for you to improve your English independently. For example, the University Library, which holds more than 5,000 self-access multimedia and textbook resources so you can work on your own projects and on topics which interest you.
Because the course is preparing you for university study, you will learn not only language and study skills but also ways of working which may be different.
