Pre-Teaching APT Level 3

The taught side of the course covers a variety of topics including


How schools are organised, funded, inspected and managed
How children learn
Issues of equality in education
Inclusion of children with special educational needs
Lesson planning and behaviour management.


The placement (forty hours over twenty weeks) may be in a primary, secondary or special school, according to preference; it is possible to negotiate your own placement with a school you already have contact with. You will need to be reliable and conscientious in attending your placement and be able to show initiative; a positive placement supervisor's report is crucial to gaining the certificate. You will also be given advice on applying for, and being interviewed for, further teacher training courses.

You will spend:

: Weeks 1-5: In the classroom for three hours per week.

: Weeks 6-27: On placement for one and a half hours and in the classroom for two hours.

: Weeks 28-30: In the classroom for three hours
