This course will help you become familiar with the IELTS exam and what is expected of you to do well. All four areas of the exam – reading, listening, speaking and writing - will be covered including useful strategies for each section. There will be a focus on some of the qualification’s most challenging components including: following academic discussion, speaking fluently, beginning and ending a talk, identifying the main ideas in a text, writing an essay with effective introductions, conclusions and coherent structure. There will be plenty of exam practice.

About this course

• identify the exam format, content and what is expected of you
• employ strategies to do well in the exam
• achieve at least 6.5 overall
• do well in the most challenging components of the exam, including following academic discussion, speaking fluently, beginning and ending a talk, identifying the main ideas in a text, writing an essay with effective introductions, conclusions and coherent structure]
• identify the areas of the qualification you do well and those which need improvement.

You will need a pen, some lined A4 paper and a file to keep your work in. Your tutor will provide handouts and worksheets.

The class will be interactive and dynamic. During the class you will work in pairs or small groups, and sometimes as a whole group. Your tutor will also work with you individually. You will be expected to do some homework every week and use Google Classroom outside the class.

Cambridge English: Advanced might also be helpful. Your tutor will advise you on the best course.
