Presenting Effectively Around the World
Most international presentations are not very good. We have all experienced the boredom of sitting through a dull, unfocussed, monotonous presentation, which might suit the presenter's fellow countrymen, but in no way suit us. And we can sympathize with the presenter. After all, it can be very difficult to choose what to say, how to say it, and what visual aids to show, not to mention the stress of standing up in front of an audience and being the centre of attention. Add to that the difficulty of doing it in a foreign language, or to a foreign audience, and you can understand why public speaking is the number one fear for most of the world's managers.
Aims
On our Presenting Effectively Around the World courses we focus on tailoring your presentation to your audience: to their national, professional or company culture, to their level of knowledge, to their degree of hostility or excitement and to their specific needs.
You will have practiced doing so, on camera, several times. We believe that presenting is a skill, and that you need to do it again and again to improve your performance.
Content
- Be on your feet presenting at least four times
- Identify the different cultural preferences audiences might have
- Discover the key to designing a clear, attractive, audience-focussed message
- Learn how to tailor your presentations to your international audience's preferences
- Look at the most appropriate way to structure your presentations
- Design visual aids that are memorable and clear to an international audience
- Work on your performance: your voice, delivery, non-verbal signals, and how best to interact with your visual aids and your audience
- Handle questions diplomatically without risking cross-cultural communication breakdown
- Keep your audience awake by choosing the right language, rhetorical tricks and rhythm
Methods
You will normally be in a group of not more than six people, and you can expect to present regularly throughout the course, using your own presentations as the material. All your presentations will be recorded on camera, and you will get feedback from an expert trainer with experience of presenting and training throughout the world. Courses normally last between one and three days.
