Overview ​Children do not stop developing at age seven. In Key Stage Two they are learning to use key skills like working with others, problem solving and communication. It is a crucial stage for developing cognitive ability and in social and emotional development. Age-phase specialism is therefore a key feature of our programme.

About this course

Course Benefits Award of Qualified Teacher Status on successful completion of three years of study.The programme prepares you for specialised understanding of the teaching, learning and curriculum requirements of children aged 7 to 11 years.Very strong partnerships with a range of schools.The opportunity to study for the Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies.

For entry to the programme we will normally require BBC from A Level, DMM from BTEC or 112 UCAS points from an Access course (other equivalences can be accepted).
For the old GCSE system we require grade C or above and for the new GCSE grading system we will accept grade 4 or higher in English Language, Maths and Science. A pass in each of the Professional Skills Tests and experience in a Primary School is also required (2 weeks minimum).​We accept the following GCSE Science equivalencies:  BTEC Level 2 (Merit or Distinction), OCR Nationals...

Course Information You will learn about the impact of effective teaching on a child’s educational process and you’ll develop teaching skills informed by theory and subject knowledge. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your knowledge in a classroom setting working in all areas of the National Curriculum. You will develop the professional skills of planning, teaching and assessing learning, as well as how to build effective relationships with children. You will acquire professional skills and understanding regarding the roles and responsibilities of a teacher. You will gain a deeper understanding of the Teachers’ Standards, and how to apply theory to practice. You will also complete an alternative professional work placement where you explore learning in a setting other than a primary classroom, which might include special provision, schools abroad, museums, educational attractions and library services.
