If you aspire to become a Primary School Teacher, but wish to remain working, our Foundation Degree in Primary Education allows you to take the first step on your journey towards teacher training.
We will work with you to develop your skills and knowledge in supporting the development of children, building on your passion for teaching, creativity and for learning.
You will be able to stay in your current job, as a teaching assistant or other paraprofessionals working in a primary school, and gain a foundation degree qualification.
Foundation degrees are particularly appropriate for people returning to learning after a break or who have not followed a conventional route in gaining their existing qualifications.
The course does not confer Qualified Teacher Status but is a stepping-stone towards this.
We offer a more manageable solution, allowing you to fit your studies around your work commitments. On successful completion of the foundation degree, you can ‘top-up’ to a full degree before progressing to further training, either based in a school or studying a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
The course team are experiencedpractitioners who are familiar with the contexts of initial teacher training. Work-based learning is integral to the programme. It aims to ensure that the course has real and immediate benefits for professionals working with children and young people. If you’ve not studied for some time, our team within our Learning Development Unit can help you develop your academic abilities. Much of our support is given in one-to-one tutorials so we can tailor our input to your specific needs. You can access a range of online resources to support you in your learning.
You will also benefit from the facilities at our High Wycombe Campus. Located right in the town centre, the campus is home to our impressive library, housed over four floors in our flagship building, The Gateway.
