BA (Hons) Primary Education with recommendation for QTS
Mode: full-time

Overview

Welcome to the BA (Hons) Primary Education with recommendation for QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).

It provides the opportunity to train intensively over three years, obtaining an honours degree that gives a thorough grounding in professional and curriculum issues.

We are passionate about learning and teaching and seek to prepare trainee teachers to offer children exciting, stimulating and challenging experiences. From the start of the course you will be involved in teaching individuals, groups and classes of children across the Primary phase. In Years 2 and 3 you will be able to focus on two consecutive phases chosen from 3-5, 5-7, 7-9 and 9-11 years. We will help you to lay a strong foundation for teaching all curriculum subjects, and to create a safe, stimulating and supportive environment in which children will learn.

If you want to use your head and your heart, your creative talents and abilities, and to make a positive difference to children's lives, then we would love to work with you.

Why study Primary Education?
Do you want to inspire children and help them learn? If you are sure that you want to become a primary school teacher and are pasionate about the role of primary education in shaping children's futures, then this course is the one for you.

During your three years with us, you will have the opportunity to gain both an honours degree and QTS. You will spend time in school throughout the course and will be encouraged and supported as you learn to develop effective and motivating ways to teach the whole curriculum to primary aged children. We will explore the theory and practice of primary education with you, and help you to develop a personal philosophy that will underpin all that you seek to achieve with the children you teach.

The focus of this degree course is learning: learning to learn; and learning about learning. We aim to nurture your skills and abilities so that you can offer children creative, inspiring and relevant experiences that will develop their potential and help them to achieve their best.

During your course you will study the entire primary age range. In years two and three you will also specialise in two consecutive age ranges selected from 3 - 5, 5 - 7, 7 - 9, 9 - 11 and will undertake school placements in your chosen age range.

Course Modules
The course is structured into three strands, all of which are underpinned by school experience:
