An introduction to a selection of basic printmaking techniques via the processes of monotype, drypoint and etching to produce a range of prints on paper. You will be encouraged to explore and experiment with various methods of applying colour to develop areas of visual interest in your prints. This course is suitable for beginners and also for those wishing to refresh previous printmaking skills.

About this course
• Etch on metal using a variety of processes
• Use various surface textures with printing ink to create monotype prints
• Prepare paper for printing
• Ink up and print a metal plate in monochrome and in multi-colour
• Develop an awareness of some of the possibilities of working with printmaking processes.
Basic materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring any drawing equipment or tools and alternative papers for printing. Specialist printing paper can also be purchased at cost in the class.

Course programme
Printing in both monochrome and colour we will explore a range of applications and techniques. We will explore textured monotype prints working with a range of materials. You will design and etch an image on metal plate, and ink and print onto prepared paper. You will also learn how to enhance and develop your etching plate utilising drypoint marks and experiment with collage to develop your imagery with additional colour and text.
