Overview
The rapid evolution of products is key to the global economy. Products change functionally and aesthetically, hence the key ingredient for any product’s success is the skill of the Product Design Engineers.
Product Design Engineers have the challenging task of combining creative, aesthetic and technical design skills, with a background in engineering science. It is important that they can design a new product that satisfies the original functional specification and is appealing to the potential market. With this said, understanding the operating principles of manufacturing processes and technologies is critical to allowing quality products to be designed and produced in the right quantities, to an appropriate level of quality, and at the right price.
Choosing to study our BEng (Hons) Product Design Engineering degree will put you in a position to understand aesthetic and ergonomic design principles, industrial design, product development, and the manufacturing processes needed to develop your products – plus the underpinning engineering science to tell you how it all works. This will allow you to develop products in companies small and large across many different industrial sectors or start your own company and develop your own product ranges.
