Production Management
This course covers the principles and practices of the role of the Production Manager in film and single camera television drama production.Involving lecture and hands-on exercise students will learn the functions of production management including script breakdown, scheduling, budgeting, locations, cast, crew and paperwork.Suitable for both the beginner as well as those with film/TV experience who would like to work in this essential discipline of the filmmaking process.
Course outline
1. Responsibilities of the Production Team - who does what and when, pre-production, principal photography, post-production, health & safety.
2. Script Breakdown - marking the script, breakdown sheets/strips, stunts, special effects, extras, props, animals, etc.
3. Scheduling - the production stripboard, actors day-out-of-days, shooting schedule.
4. Budgeting - development, above-the-line, below-the-line, post-production, insurance, completion bonds.
5. Casting - talent scheduling and contracts.
6. Crewing - what are the jobs, how to find crew, crew contracts.
7. Location Scouting - finding locations, making arrangements, managing, film commissions, the Film Office.
