Prosthetics Makeup for Film and TV

The course includes:

Life casting is the process of creating a three-dimensional copy of a living human body or small body parts. You will begin by learning how to undertake an accurate life cast. The life cast process is usually limited to a small section of the body such as a face or arm. The standout feature of life casts is their high level of realism and detail and they can replicate details as small as fingerprints and pores. Using your life cast you will be guided through how to create a three-dimensional plaster cast. You will learn how to mix plaster, avoid air bubbles and pour plaster into your life cast.

Sculpting - this is your opportunity to bring all of your ideas to life creating a three-dimensional piece. Experiment with wax or oil based clays, try different sculpting techniques and play with a variety of sculpting tools.

Making a two part mould - Through step-by-step demonstrations you will learn how to prepare and make a two-part mould of your finished sculpt. The two-part mould will be used to cast the final prosthetic piece. By this stage you will have a good understanding of mould making.
Casting a prosthetic piece - During the course you will learn about the different materials that can be used to create a prosthetic piece such as foam latex, latex, gelatine or silicone. The material you choose will depend on factors such as size, costing, when and where it may be used. You will be guided through how to take a cast of your prosthetic piece.

Applying a prosthetic piece - You will be shown how to apply your prosthetic piece onto your model and colour it. You will become familiar with using special effects make-up and a variety of brushes to create the final desired look.

Our makeup courses take place in our makeup studios housed within our Lime Grove site in West London.

Level: This is a beginners prosthetics makeup course. It's suitable if you've no previous experience or if you'd like to use the course as a refresher.

Booking: Your course place is confirmed once you have booked online or via the phone using a credit or debit card. There is no deadline for booking. Places are offered on a first come, first served basis, and all courses have a maximum number of students. We suggest you book early to avoid disappointment.
