About this course
By the end of this training, students will have acquired a wide range of practical research skills and knowledge of a range of general historical, theoretical, and philosophical issues underlying the discipline of psychology.
Normally a minimum of an upper second-class Bachelor’s degree from a UK university of an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard.
The Psychological Sciences MSc is designed to confer Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS). GBC is the form of professional accreditation that is required for many careers that you may pursue with a psychology degree, as well as for advanced professional training in psychology. This is a conversion course.

Course programme
Students acquire a wide range of practical research skills. They gain knowledge of the nature and limitations of the scientific method and the main alternatives. In addition they develop knowledge of a range of general historical, theoretical, and philosophical issues underlying the discipline of psychology.
Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits.
The programme consists of seven core modules (120 credits), and a research dissertation (60 credits).

There are no optional modules for this programme.
Dissertation/reportAll students undertake an independent research project which culminates in a dissertation of 10,000–12,000 words.
Teaching and learningThe programme is delivered through a combination of small-group lectures and practicals. Assessment is through reports of empirical projects carried out individually and in groups, essays, unseen examinations, a computing project, a literature review, web page and PowerPoint presentation.
