Course programme
The role of Psychology in understanding English Literature has been present since Psychology began; both disciplines have common features that make this an exciting and synergistic joint honours degree. English Literature has been central to depicting human culture, identity, and behaviour in both ancient and contemporary short stories, novels, poetry and plays. Both Psychology and English demand a thorough analysis of text and discourse, an area of research activity of increasing importance in Psychology. Psychology provides a theoretical, scientific framework and an analytical perspective that enhances investigations seeking to make sense of the stories, characters and narrative in literature as well as the motivations and personalities of authors.
