What will I learn?

You'll learn about: jobs in the public services (this will help you develop an informed opinion of a career you'd like to follow); communication skills; qualities of being an instructor; and interpersonal (teamwork) skills There is also a section about health & fitness, and a variety of sports and recreation activities that you'll take part in A large element of the course is about learning self-discipline and respect, all qualities expected of a public service employee

How will I be assessed?

Through a combination of practical work and a portfolio of assignments, case studies and tests Some units may contain externally set exams

What may it lead to?

You can progress onto a Level 3 qualification at Canterbury College or into a career related to public services

Entry Requirements

You should have at least 4 GCSEs at grade D (including English and Maths) and a high level of interest in public services An interview and assessment centre will be completed prior to offering a place on the course as well as obtaining good references If you are progressing from the Level 1 Public Services course, you must have successfully completed the qualification (including English and Maths) and have a good report from your previous tutors

Additional Information & Other Costs

Although there is a strong practical element within this course, much of the work is carried out in the classroom There may be trips and activities to a range of different places related to the course content Students will be expected to purchase a uniform or kit that relates to this course Further details will be explained at the interview stage All students are required to undertake a minimum of two weeks work experience in a related environment
