Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
There is a strong emphasis on outdoor activities and fitness on the course. In order to participate in these units students must be in possession of adequate water proof clothing, stout walking boots or shoes, along with PE and fitness clothing suitable for physical activity in the gymnasium and on the playing field.
How will I be assessed?
There is regular submission of coursework assignments to build a portfolio of work. There are no formal examinations, but there are fixed deadlines throughout the course which must be met.
What can I do afterwards?
Students studying for the First Diploma in Uniformed Public Services aspire to careers in the armed forces, the blue light emergency services and other uniformed services such as HM Prison Service and HM Customs. Students who achieve a higher grade in their diploma can apply to progress on to the National Certificate or National Diploma (two year) courses in Uniformed Public Services, or other higher level courses at the college.
Are there any additional costs involved?
There will be opportunities to participate in events outside the college such as Army or Navy 'Look at Life courses, visits to relevant establishments such as the Imperial War Museum and the Crown Court, and a trip abroad that enhances understanding of the content of various course units. Some of these trips will have a charge payable by the students to cover the costs involved.
