2. Course description This Diploma offers a professional development opportunity to further develop the skills and knowledge required to teach English in Further Education Colleges, Adult and Community Learning, 14-19 units in Schools and Academies, Private Training Organisations, Prison Education and the Public services (Police, Paramedics, Fire Service). This is a part-time one year course aimed specifically at those teachers who have completed their generic teaching qualification (DET, DTLLS, PGCE, Cert Ed). Assessment is through a portfolio of evidence which includes observations, presentations and written work. You will study for 3 hours a week in one evening. There are three modules of study: Module 1: English: ESOL, Literacy and the Learners, Module 2: Theories and Frameworks, Module 3: Learning and Teaching.

3. Entry requirements An initial teaching qualification (e.g PGCE or Certifcate of Education or DTTLS). A minimum of 50 hours teaching in the specialist area at two different levels is required. A subject mentor must also be secured prior to starting the course. The applicant will need to have an effective level of communication and a good command of written and spoken english.
