Advances in new technologies and dealing with our ageing infrastructure are bringing vast opportunities to our railway networks. Sponsored by The Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust* (The LRET) and The National Skills Academy for Railway Engineering (NSARE), this course explores the technologies and operational systems that are needed to create a modern high speed railway network.
What will I be doing?
• Learning about how railway technologies and approaches come together to create a state-of-the-art energy efficient railway
• Competing in small teams to design and make the front end of a train and seeing which train performs best in a wind tunnel and in a crash test
• Finding out about how trains protect passengers and drivers, and why
communication systems are essential for the safe and efficient operation of our railways
• Learning how trains and passengers benefit from rails that are joined without gaps and how electronic systems are used to keep trains apart
• Discovering more about how railway trains accelerate and brake while staying on the rails and why reliability is so important in the operation of railways
• Developing your communication, team-building and time-management skills andmaking your CV stand out
