RELIGIOUS STUDIES

Who is this course for?

Those who wish how to learn how to think in abstract terms and gain insight into how religion has influenced society today

How long is this course for?

'AS' Level - 1 year, 5 hours per week
'A' Level - 2 years, 5 hours per week

What will I study?
'AS' Level comprises two modules:
  • An Introduction to the Acts of the Apostles (exploring the beginnings of the early Church and tracing the journey of the gospel).
  • Religious Ethics: Foundations, Principles and Practice (including Christian Ethics eg Sermon on Mount;
    Bio-Ethics - Abortion, New reproductive technologies, Sexual Ethics;
    Life and Death Issues - Suicide, Euthanasia etc)

'A' Level requires two further modules to be studied to a higher level in the second year:
  • A Study of Acts, Galatians and 1 Corinthians;
  • Ethics and Society (including Human Rights, Environmental Ethics, War and Peace;Ethics of Justice and Punishment)

How will I be assessed?
'AS' Level requires two externally assessed examinations.
Modules 1 and 2 - are externally assessed by two structured essay questions (40 minutes each paper) from a choice of four, each paper worth 50% of AS and 25% of full A level

'A' Level requires two examinations:
Modules 3 and 4 - are externally assessed by two structured essay questions (2 hours each paper) from a choice of four, each paper worth 50% of A2 (second year of A level) and 25% of full A Level.
