Course Content:
You will be studying Islam while on this course. The course covers the following areas. Present Religious Studies as an academic discipline, aiming to promote a critical and sympathetic approach; Provide detailed examination of religion in terms of experience, belief, practice and sacred writings; Help to identify and explore questions and issues fundamental to religious traditions. As an example, the Islam option includes the following. Religious ethics, Islam, Religious ethics (ethical theory, practical ethics); Islam (Qur'an: Revelation, Pillars, Seerah). If you are 16-19, you will also be on a curriculum 2000 programme and will have regular tutorials, key skills such as communications, IT and numeracy and an enrichment programme.

Other Information:
You will be assessed both informally through regular assignments, tests and mock examination and formally by two written examinations taken in the summer term. If you wish to go on to study for A2 level, you will need to achieve good grades in both the informal assessment and the AS level examinations. You must have been well motivated and your attendance and punctuality must also have been good.

Progression:
Successful students progress from AS to A2. Following this they may then move to higher education. You can also leave the course after the AS level examinations and go on to another level 3 course or employment
