Healthcare practitioners require the skills and knowledge to both critically appraise and generate research evidence in order to evaluate and develop practice and to provide appropriate care.

Healthcare roles also demand the development of skills that enable practitioners to discuss, disseminate and implement research findings in collaboration with colleagues, service users and the wider community.

This module introduces you to the main principles of research in the behavioural and health sciences.

It covers key concepts related to the scientific method and various research designs used in the study of human behaviour, health and illness.

This module aims to:

• Provide you with a knowledge and understanding of research, its methodologies and methods
• Allow you to be critical consumers of research, to be aware of strategies for sharing and implementing findings and to develop practice with colleagues, service users and local communities
• Enable you to be able to plan small scale research activities of your own and to set that research within a wider professional context.

This module can be taken as part of the BSc Nursing Studies top up degree. If you wish to complete a top-up degree, please apply directly on the Nursing Studies programme webpage. If you would still like to complete this module as a CPPD student but would like to complete a top-up degree at a later date, please note that you will only be able to transfer a maximum of 30 credits which have been awarded within 5 years prior to the start date of the programme (top-up degree). Entry requirements for BSc Health Sciences (online) programme:

• 120 Level 4 credit points and 120 Level 5 credit points in healthcare-related subjects

Entry requirements for study as a stand-alone module:

• Current registration with a professional and regulatory body (healthcare)

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English one of the following qualifications is also required:

• IELTS: 7.0

Please note that due to changes in the UKVI's list of SELTs we are no longer able to accept TOEFL as evidence of English language for students who require a CAS as of April 2014.
