Course programme
The RoSPA Occupational Advanced Driving Test (RoADTest) is the only test designed specifically to meet the unique needs of business drivers. Consisting of a flexible modular training programme, which culminates in a test, RoADTest sets the benchmark standard for 'at work' driving.
Who is RoADTest aimed at?
The flexible training programme and test are aimed at all those who drive for work purposes, and are therefore more likely to drive:
- Thousands of business miles each year
- At peak times, primarily during weekdays when roads are most congested
- To new locations, which necessitates navigation skills
- To meet a deadline
- While under pressure to respond to work-related phone calls
- In unfamiliar vehicles
- While dividing their attention between the driving task and the forthcoming meeting or delivery
The advantages of undertaking RoADTest over and above standard driver training packages are:
- It is benchmarked in line with the RoSPA Advanced Driving Test
- It tests driver knowledge, ability and hazard perception
- It reinforces training messages over a period of time
- It is delivered by appropriately-qualified and selected trainers
- It is a recognised qualification, with BTEC accreditation
- It ensures a minimum standard
- It can result in potentially lower insurance premiums
What does it consist of?
Training
The programme is flexible and the exact duration depends upon the existing standard of driving and any previous advanced driver training. Typically, a driver could expect to receive three days of training on a 2:1 basis, with the third day involving a hazard perception assessment, theory and practical tests.
Test
In order to pass, drivers must demonstrate their knowledge of key occupational road risk issues, such as drink and drugs, mobile phones, safer speeds, fatigue, posture, seat support and head restraints.
In addition, it is strongly advised that delegates review their knowledge of the Highway Code and Roadcraft/Fleetcraft.
Successful drivers will receive a licence valid for three years and can upgrade their test pass to a BTEC Level 3 Award in Advanced Driving.
