Russian Intermediate GCSE

Your Course
This is a one year course requiring previous knowledge of Russian leading to the GCSE Russian examination in the summer term.
The course aims to develop equally the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.In listening and reading we will aim to understand and extract specific details from what is heard (or from written material) and to summarise them. In speaking, the aim will be to provide information and to initiate, sustain and develop conversations on various topics. In writing, we will aim to provide and elicit information, to express ideas and to refer to/narrate past, present and furure events.
Students will be conducting everyday conversations, finding out information and taking the initiative in various situations; grammar and different topics (such as family and Friends, Work, Travel, leisure, entertainment, media, House and Hometown etc). A coursebook will be recommended.
The examination board we use is Edexcel. More details can be obtained from the Edexcel website, including the specification and past papers. The oral examination will take place in May during class time.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the 30 week course students will have been given the opportunity to:
· Use Russian effectively in everyday conversations
· Understand specific details and respond accordingly to spoken or written language
· Express ideas, attitudes, personal feelings and opinions
· Discuss past, present and future events
· Enjoy and appreciate Russian culture
Your Tutor
Dr Olga Kimkhai graduated from Novosibirsk State University, Russia. She received a PhD degree in Chemistry at the Institute of Catalysis, Russian Academy of Science, Novosibirsk, Russia. She has considerable experience of teaching Russian to GCSE and A level. She has been teaching Russian to adults at Hills Road Sixth Form College for many years.

Tuition fees: £270
Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.

Please note that there are no classes during half term Monday 15th - Friday 19th February 2010 unless otherwise stated.
