This course is for you if you have been out of education for a number of years or have left school with few qualifications. You may also wish to progress to higher education for a career in a scientific or technological subject. This course may also be for you if your overseas qualification is not accepted for entry into a degree course, in the U.K.

What are the entry requirements?
You will be assessed on your English and Maths skills at interview. You should be at a minimum of Basic/Key Skills Level 1 in Communication and Application of Number. However, particular strengths identified at the interview will be taken into consideration. Induction is taken very seriously at this college. You will follow a five week induction where your suitability for the level and type of course you are hoping to be on will be assessed. Successful completion of the induction period will confirm your place on a course.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.
  • Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 2

  • You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
  • Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2

  • You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.


What qualification will I receive?
The course is kite marked and validated by the National Open College Network (NOCN). If successful, you will be awarded a London Open College Network Diploma.

Where can it lead?
Past students have either completed or are studying for various degrees in British Universities, e.g. in Astro Physics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Nutrition and Dietetics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering and Electronics with Music.

What will I study?
You will study the core modules : Mathematics, Information Technology and Study Skills. In addition, you will follow the Science pathway studying Biology and Chemistry.

How will I be taught?
There is a range of teaching methods to suit your learning style including lectures, practicals, independent research, group work, practical work and private study. You will able to access course information via the Web, using the College's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It should be noted that a substantial commitment to private studies is needed to assure success.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed throughout the year using a range of methods including Course Work, Written Assignments and Examinations.

What support is available while I am on the course?
You will be allocated a personal tutor and attend tutorial sessions. With your tutor you will establish and monitor your Individual Learning Plan. You will have access to the College's extensive support facilities, guidance and learning resources.
