About this course
Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator
Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used, and be familiar with other types of information sources and relevant legislation
Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
Be able to locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions
Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
Check all emergency lowering functions
Safely mount and dismount the machine
Configure the machine for travel
Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely on level ground and inclines in open and confined areas
Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area, including overhead and underground hazards
Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure in readiness to carry out accessing tasks
Carry out accessing tasks, at various points up to full operating height
Travel with platform raised (where applicable)
Use platform extension section
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation
Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
operators using s MEWP scissor lift within the workplace
Site must have access to the equipment and be able to provide an in date LOLER ticket for the machine.

Course programme
Learn how to safely and efficiently operate a mobile elevating work platform.
On completion of the course you will understand the statutory requirements and the need for safety training. The course covers machine introduction and familiarisation, daily checks and fault reporting, siting and preparation, safety rules and procedures including applicable legislation, safety harnesses, general operating and emergency procedures and more. Course Content
Classroom based theory training to inform candidates of the relevant legislation applicable (Including Work at Height Regulations 2005), raise awareness of site safety including the need to assess the job to be done, and the intended use of the specification of machine on the course.
Supervised practical exercises to develop skills in planning the route to the work area, manoeuvring both forwards and reverse (including whilst elevated), siting the vehicle ready for use, operation of any platform extension / articulating or telescopic boom functions at various heights.
Application of Work Restraint (Fall Prevention), or Fall Arrest harnesses.
Course Certification
On successful completion of a theory test consisting of both open and multiple choice questions, and practical assessment using a progressive assessment report, successful candidates will receive a Certificate of Training in Basic Practical Skill and Ability.
