This is an accredited course. On successful completion you will receive 10 credits at SHE 1, SCQF Level 7. Assessment will be by coursework (continuous assessment).
All accredited courses will use an opt-out arrangement: those enrolled on an accredited course will be assumed to be studying for credit unless they opt out. Students enrolled on the module can opt out up to and including week 5. Registering for credit and completing matriculation gives you access to the Library and Learning Centre and University facilities.

Course programme
The module will offer a critical survey of Scottish cinema from the 1940s to the present and will focus on the work of key filmmakers and screenwriters.
The indicative module content is as follows:
- Representation of Scotland on Screen 1 –Trainspotting (1996) & Rob Roy (1995)
- Representation of Scotland on Screen 2 - I Know Where I’m Going! (1945) & Ae Fond Kiss (2004)
- Two Comedies on Scottish Culture: Whisky Galore! (1949) & The Angels’ Share (2012)
- Americans in Scotland – Local Hero (1983) & The Maggie (1954)
- Deprived Childhoods – Bill Douglas Trilogy & Ratcatcher (1999)
- Contemporary Scottish directors – Young Adam (2003) & The Last King of Scotland (2006).
