Vision West Nottinghamshire College is excited to be working in partnership with Job Centre Plus to provide an exciting FREE opportunity for unemployed individuals.
If you are out of work, the sector-based work academy will provide the following opportunities:
- Gain recognised qualifications in the health and social care sector
- opportunity to speak with employers and service users
- A guaranteed job interview on completion of the course
The sector based work academy is held at various locations within the community and will enable individuals to gain recognised qualifications to support employment within the health and social care sector:
- Level 1 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
- Level 1 Certificate in Workskills (QCF)
- Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care

Entry requirementsYou are required to be referred by your local job centre advisor.
To access this course you will need to be in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) or Employment Support Allowance (ESA).
There is a requirement to attend a selection event where a variety of assessments will take place to ascertain your suitability for the course.
Various start dates are available throughout the year.
How long is the course?Mansfield, Ashfield, Worksop and Newark:
9.15am-3.15pm Three days per week over six weeks
Selection day will take place one week prior to start date
Starting September 2015
Various community venues
Nottingham:
9.30am-1.30pm Five days per week over two weeks (Level 1 certificate only)
Selection day will take place two weeks prior to start date
Starting October 2015
Venue: Canal Street
To successfully complete the course you will be required to generate evidence to meet awarding body outcomes. This will be generated through taught delivery and workbook activities. There will also be a requirement for you to contribute to classroom activities and presentations.
Success ratesDelivery of the sector based work academies in health and social care has resulted in (68%) gaining employment.
What does the course lead to?This course can lead to employment opportunities within the health and social care sector.

- Understand the role of the social care worker
- Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
- Introduction to duty of care in health and social care
- Understand person-centred approaches in adult social care
- Understand health and safety in social care settings
