Allotments are increasingly popular as a project location and potential benefits include social and therapeutic gains, healthier lifestyles and training opportunities. Most towns and cities in the UK now feature one or more allotment-based projects, most typically food growing projects involving schools, local people, training providers or healthy living initiatives. This very popular event will help to get your own allotment project up and running. It will introduce legal and other essential information, health and safety and risk assessments related to allotments, choosing the right plot and planning a design, working out equipment needs from shed to spade, look at costs, grants and fundraising, and provide tips on keeping the project going, come rain or shine. The event draws on a number of case studies, with in-depth studies of Diggin It and Moor Trees, two well-known allotment projects in Plymouth. An in-depth handbook is provided as part of the event.
