On this course you will learn how to sew using professional techniques. You will learn how to use a sewing machine and create a portfolio of sewing samples and finishing techniques. This short course is all about fun and creativity. You will work with a range of fabrics while focussing on techniques including; sewing, seams, hems and much more. You will also look at different aspects of sewing and garment construction.

This course is suitable for absolute beginners but also those with some experience.

Course programme

Over the 10 weeks you will develop knowledge and confidence in dressmaking through: learning how to use a sewing machine, taking personal measurements and learning how to adapt a pattern to fit. You will also learn how to choose suitable fabrics for fashion styles, approaching the process of cutting out and assembling garments in a systematic way, sampling seams, hems, buttonholes and zips for a professional finish and compiling a file of samples and information.

You will be taught how to use a sewing machine, paper patterns and how to create your very own garments. You will also learn how to undertake simple alterations and make home furnishings.
