Typical course content
Professional development: all modules can be attended on a standard short-course basis without undertaking the formal assessment.
Professional development with CATS points: this is the best mode for those who are interested in particular modules. You will register for the modules you are interested in and undertake the specified assessment (coursework, exam, or a combination of both) with the MSc students. This allows flexibility, while ensuring that you get the most from the modules. Up to four modules of CATS points can be used towards an MSc if you subsequently apply. Other institutions may also allow them to contribute towards their postgraduate courses in statistics.
European Masters in Official Statistics (EMOS)
The European Union has started a masters accreditation in official statistics. The University of Southampton’s MSc in Official Statistics has been approved, and to qualify for EMOS you need to (a) complete MOffStat; (b) complete two additional modules; and (c) write a reflective essay on a placement in a Statistical Office, which will normally be covered by your MOffStat dissertation, as long as it is on a work-related topic.
These courses may also be taken as a standalone CPD courses.
