The professional figure of the person in charge of transporting the sick, also known by the term monatto, has very ancient origins. This term, in fact, in ancient times was a public clerk who in periods of pestilential epidemic was instructed by the municipalities to transport the sick or corpses to the lazarets, usually people sentenced to death, prisoners or people recovered from the disease. Today the sick transport service consists in the transport of a person, whose pathology forces him to be immobile and unable to move independently. It can be carried out in agreement with the Local Health Authorities or with private structures or at the request of private individuals. The transport of the sick takes place on an ambulance and the service offered can be of various types, such as patient discharge, patient transfer, transport for medical visits or specific therapies. The optimal crew of a CRI ambulance that performs both medical transport (TS) and emergency (TSSA) services is made up of three volunteers. A driver and two qualified rescuers in the health cell. Considering the different specifications present in the various regions of Italy, please refer to the latter, in order to comply with the minimum conditions required for the training of crews.
