Suitable for: Beginners who can use a sewing machine. On this two day workshop you will make a skirt, pajama/casual trousers and a classic shift dress. You will learn a variety of techniques including hemming, pattern cutting, pattern adaptation, alterations and inserting concealed zips. You will take home your own custom made patterns to use again and gain confidence to make more items.

Sarah has set up the Rowan Tree Studio in the beautiful Clovelly Estates property which has been constructed with a purpose built annexe designed for business with full disabled access and facilities. I have been a keen crafter since childhood and started teaching in London in 2008. I have taught at and run my own studio in north devon for the last 2 years. My speciality is Patchwork & Soap making which I teach to a high level. I have a GCSE in textiles and have run my own soap compan for 9 years giving me lots of valuable experience which I share

Course programme

Course content:

Have you ever wanted to be able to quickly make up a simple skirt or top but don't have the skills or the patience to follow complicated patterns? On this two day workshop you will make a skirt, pajama/casual trousers and a classic shift dress. You will learn a variety of techniques including hemming, pattern cutting, pattern adaptation and concealed zips. You will take home your own custom made patterns to use again and top tips on fabric buying, thrifty sewing and up-cycling.

You will be asked to bring fabric and additional haberdashery items will be supplied (details given when booking). All equipment including sewing machines will be provided and you will need to have taken part in the Learn to use your sewing machine class or be able to confidently sew a straight line on a machine. Lunch will be provided as well as tea & cake. Materials, inspirational books and othe items are available to buy.

Here at Rowan Tree Studio we keep our class sizes small and have emphasis on 1-2-1 attention. Our teaching style is thorough and engaging with lots of hands on learning in a social and enjoyable atmosphere.
