Course programme

You’ll be working at an intermediate level, in our simulated site environment or workshop. As a site carpenter, you’ll learn how to fit joists, studwork, trusses and even kitchens.

This course focuses on practical activity but includes some written theory and portfolio building, consists of the following units:

  • CSA-L1Core01 Health, safety and welfare in the construction and associated industries.
  • CSA-L2Core04 Understanding information, quantities and communication with others.
  • CSA-L2Core05 Understanding construction technology.
  • CSA-L1Occ11 Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools.
  • CSA-L2Occ36 Carry out first fixing operations.
  • CSA-L2Occ37 Carry out second fixing operations.
  • CSA-L2Occ38 Carry out structural carcassing operations.
  • CSA-L2Occ39 Carry out maintenance to non-structural carpentry work.

At this intermediate level, working in our simulated site environment, you will learn a wide variety of practical skills (and theoretical knowledge), which will prepare you for working on site. You will learn to fit joists, studwork, trusses, doors and frames, skirting, architrave, staircases and kitchens amongst other things. There will be a number of theory assessments with a final practical assignment to complete the qualification.

Course is approximately 40% theory, 60% practical. You will need to provide pens, pencils and drawing equipment for the theory side as well as safety footwear. Other Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied as necessary.

You will be expected to undertake Functional Skills at an appropriate level for you as part of this course.
